As a director and writer, he created films now embedded in our culture— This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Stand by Me, Misery, A Few Good Men, and more — each a master class in tone, character, and heart. His work elevated comedy, drama, and satire, proving that stories can be both entertaining and deeply meaningful. Beyond film, his steadfast advocacy for democracy, civil rights, public health, and compassion reflects the same moral clarity that defines his art. We are deeply saddened, yet profoundly grateful, for a career that expanded what comedy could be and a legacy that will inspire generations to come.
